Cheryl Cole has beaten loads of other contenders as 'Woman of the Year' at the prestigious Glamour Award ceremony.

Christine Bleakley from The One Show won Presenter of the year, Billie Piper won Actress of the year and Lilly Allen won Solo Artist of the year.

But it was Cheryl Cole who has had to deal with much unwanted media attention over her split with Ashley Cole who won the biggie.

Cheryl is a great lass and a indeed a rightful role model to many young women, but Woman or the year?

Nah!

I would rather see a woman who has devoted her life to helping others and not someone who has just had a hard time.

We really have got our priorities wrong and I am sure Cheryl would be the first to agree that award ceremonies like this, which gain much more attention than they deserve, should highlight real people who face adversity first then place celebs as a sideline.

Christine Bleakly is a great presenter and the award is justified, Lilly Allen solo artist of the year?

Nah!

Billie Piper as actress of the year?

Maybe.

Call me a miserable old git but these awards are quite annoying with no depth and just reek of a self serving mutual appreciation society. The 'aren't we all so beautiful club' is what people want though isn't it?

Well if there was a bit of class about the whole thing with some artistic edge I think the whole thing could reach a wider audience and become palatable for even the most miserly of individuals like myself but for now can't they just do it behind closed doors?

The only entertaining part of the whole thing was watching the handbags at dawn with James Corden and Sir Patrick Stewart. Now you know why Patrick Stewart has never cut out a career as a stand up comedian.

"But this is the Glamour Awards"  ……. "Why would you put an overweight youth volunteer (No reference to James Corden who should be proud of his belly) with spots and bad dress sense on a podium for a glamour award?" I hear you cry.

Because she has her priorities right.

£1,000 for an evening dress or £1,000 for the kids that rely on her in her youth club? 'She' would not have any difficulty in making that decision.
